Natural beauty with a rich cultural heritage
The region of the Peloponesse is the sourthernmost point of mainland Greece, and in fact, can
techincally be called an island. It is a holiday destination for connoisseurs of Greece since it
combines stunning sandy beaches with crystal waters, renowned ancient cities, the ancient
theater of Epidaurus, and so many other wonderful places that are worth visiting.
Medieval remains, old Venetian castles like Nafplio, Methoni and Corinth, the Towers of Mani
and the Byzantine places of Monemvasia and Mystra all make the Peloponnese a truly
magical region in Greece offering a glimpse into its glorious past.
Much of the region's charm has nothing to do with past civilizations, though. The Peloponnese
is also ideal for holidays "off the beaten track", there are peaceful and secluded areas all over
the region from pretty small ports to sandy beaches (some of the finest and least developed in
Greece) and charming shoreside restaurants with delicious local cuisine.
Most of the regions of the Peloponnese are reachable by car from Athens within a one to five
hours drive. The Peloponnese also offers an unspoilt stunning coastline to explore by yacht
and the beautiful islands of Spetses or Hydra are perfect for a daily cruise.
